Why have you lived in so many rigs?

Over the past two years, I have owned three rigs and lived in six (if you count brief moments spent in rental cargo vans). This is not because I love moving or living without water or power, but because I have refused to settle on a home that isn’t a great fit for Terra and I. It has taken some trial and error, but I have a feeling that we are finally where we need to be with Stanley (our truck camper), and we are looking forward to settling in with him for the long haul.

How long do you plan to live on the road?

Until I stop loving it. I cherish my freedom and ability to travel to family, friends, and beautiful destinations around the country and do not plan on giving that up any time soon. That said, I would love to transition to having a home base and a part-time adventure rig in the future, but that likely will not happen for a few years, at least.

Where do you go to the bathroom/shower/etc?

I have had a variety of bathroom setups in my rigs, but have learned that they are more of a convinience than a necessity. In the van, I had a Nature's Head composting toilet which I used regularly. I had a heated outdoor shower which I used three times in a year. In the bus, I ditched the toilet and built an indoor waterproofed room where I used a solar shower a time or two. In the camper, I will be plumbing a cold outdoor shower, and do not plan on having a toilet. There are plenty of opportunities to use public bathrooms and showers, or to just go outside.

What Do You Do For Work?

I currently work full-time as a digital media creator. This includes creating weekly videos on YouTube, writing blog posts for this website, and fostering community on Instagram, TikTok, and Patreon. This work generates income through Google AdSense, brand partnerships, and affiliate links denoted across my pages. Previously, I worked as an energy programs specialist for local government in California.

Where did you learn to build?

I started my van build with little more than the knowledge to use a tape measure and screwgun. Everything I have learned since has been from working with my Dad or youtube university. I have also gotten immense value from websites like FarOutRide.com, where I learned how to design and build my electrical, propane, and plumbing systems.

Aren't you scared to travel alone?

Not really. The world is full of risks and sketchy people, but they are no more numerous on the road than in any town or city that I have been to. truthfully, I feel safer being alone in nature than I do in a big city or town, and have gratefully never had any issues while on the road. I listen to my gut, and if a place feels unsafe, I leave. The only incident that I have had in two years was while I was parked in my parents driveway, ironically.
