Stanley
2006 Toyota Tundra 4x4 + 1994 Bigfoot 6.11 Camper
October 2022 - Present
Stanley is a 4x4 Tundra and Bigfoot Camper combo, and our third rig since hitting the road. He’s supported by Rancho 2.5” shocks + struts, a custom heavy duty leaf spring pack from Deaver Suspension, and 255/80/17 Falken Wildpeaks AT tires. As for the camper - well, it’s a work in process. After driving it back out west from its prior home in Minnesota, I was forced to bring it down to the studs for a full gut + renovation after finding extensive water damage, rot, and mold. Bigfoot is now on the mend with plans to be road-ready by February 2023. Somehow, this combo is both our oldest and most reliable setup so far, and we could not be more excited to put it to the test in the years to come.
The Bus
2009 Chevy Express 3500 Thomas Built School Bus
March 2022 - October 2022
Ironically, The Bus never had a name. It was a love/hate relationship, truthfully. I built out the bus in just over two months for under $10,000 - crushing the van’s timeline and budget. Comparatively, the interior of The Bus provided ample living space, making road living as comfortable as it could be. Unfortunately, our journey was plagued by non-stop breakdowns which doubled the cost of the build in less than six months. After a half dozen trips to the mechanic and more nights in hotels than we’ve spent in the last two years, it was time to call it. We were both sad to see it go but it was time to move onto something that fit us and our lifestyle better.
Savannah
2020 Ford Transit-250 148” WB High-Roof Van
January 2021 - February 2022
Our first love and the rig that started it all. I bought Savannah moments before the van market took a crazy hike and became unrealistic for the majority of us (including present-day me), and could not have been more grateful. I worked on this build over the course of six months between extended road trips traveling in it partially finished. Savannah taught me that life on the road can be simple, and some of my favorite memories with her were when we traveled together without water, cabinets, or any of the fancy innards that she eventually boasted. After a year together, I decided to sell her to boost my savings and quit my 9-5 job. It was one of the hardest decisions I have had to make, but I am so grateful that I did.
